Be prepared

Important Information For Initial Contact

Be prepared for the initial consultation. If you have any of the following information readily at hand, then you may wish to have it with you when you call in order to get the most out of your initial free consultation.

Has the person been sentenced and if so when was he sentenced? There may be deadlines associated with proceeding with certain types of litigation. A perfectly legitimate case can be lost if a deadline is missed. The clock starts ticking once sentence is imposed.

If the person has not yet been sentenced then what was the date of conviction and when is the case scheduled for sentence? There are certain motions that can be made after conviction and prior to sentence.

Where did the conviction occur? Was it in state or federal court? What was the county of conviction?

What crimes was the defendant initially charged with? This information will be contained in the indictment.

If the person is incarcerated in a state facility, what is his inmate number? If the person is incarcerated in a federal penitentiary, what is his BOP number?

The name, and any contact information of the trial lawyer.

Any ideas that either the client or his trial attorney have about issues that may serve as a basis for appeal.
